This week’s Meet a Mom interview is one of our own—Elizabeth Lim, the mom of two behind BeachCities Moms! She and her husband Mark live in the South Bay of Los Angeles with their two girls, Sailor and Haven, 3 and 1. She joined The Local Moms Network after building a career in the wellness and food industries.
“Becoming a mom was such a transformative experience for me I couldn’t fathom immersing myself into anything that didn’t involve…being a mom!” says Elizabeth. To learn more about this mom of two, including her favorite local spots (if you’re considering a Southern Cali trip!), read on below:
Why did you decide to raise a family in your area?
The beach lifestyle! It is casual, family friendly, much slower paced than LA, and everything I ever dreamed of for my family!
What is your background, professionally?
Before I became a mom, I worked in the health and wellness/food industry. I was a private chef, taught cooking classes, and most recently had a meal delivery business that delivered local, fresh, family friendly meals to your doorstep- it was a wild ride!
Why did you join TLMN?
That combined with the genius business model—providing flexible WFH jobs for moms around the country who have the capability to be an amazing resource for other moms in the area—I just love it!
What is your favorite mom mantra?
I have three mantras that I would say define thatway I parent the most and that I find myself going back to on a daily basis:
- Validate the feeling while holding the boundary.
- Model the behavior you want to see, trust that it will eventually follow.
- Do less! (less correcting, less entertaining, less hovering, less directing, less interfering, less stuff, less control over play, less business, less activities, less everything!)
What advice would you go back and give yourself as a first time mom?
OMG! Where do I begin…? I guess most importantly I would say this time of your life is so fleeting; don’t put pressure on yourself to rush through it. There is so much pressure in society to get back to work, get back into shape, get back into your social life, to your romantic life, etc. You will eventually get there, but for now embrace every second of this stage!
What TV show, book, music etc. are you into right now?
If I get the rare chance to listen to something of my own, I am either jamming to Taylor Swift or Morgan Wallen!
What is your favorite thing about being a mom?:
Right now I would have to say watching my two girls play together and love on each other—that has been the greatest joy. Also having two built-in besties. The three of us do everything together, and it is just the best!
