Did you know that tooth decay is a top chronic infectious disease among children? It is more common than asthma and childhood obesity. In fact, about half of children in the U.S. are affected by tooth decay by the time they enter school. This leads to over 34 million school hours being lost each year due to dental concerns. And dental care is the most frequently cited unmet health need for children with special healthcare needs. At Great Smiles, we specialize in treating children, especially children with special healthcare needs.
Our goal at Great Smiles is to raise awareness in the fight against childhood tooth decay! With proper oral hygiene and a well-balanced, low-sugar diet, tooth decay can be prevented; and for early cavities, even reversed! Besides educating our patients, we also visit local preschools and elementary schools to talk to children about oral health.
