July Four: 7/4 — The book, its series and the boy who inspired it!

July Four: 7/4 is the fourth book in the Celebrate the HoliDates® children’s book series, written by someone you already know—Maria Felicia Kelley, the founder of The North County Moms, and inspired by her youngest son, Constantine. Like the other books in the series, July Four: 7/4 is three-books-in-one, boasting a story about the summer season and the traditions that make it a day full of fun and celebrations. Plus, there’s a primer for early learners of American history and the Revolutionary War. And then there’s the recipe activity that can be used as a shopping-for-ingredients trip to the grocery store and build into creative baking fun in the kitchen!

Who it’s perfect for and why

The book is perfect for later preschool and elementary-ages, 4-11, helping younger kids in that age range develop calendar curiosity and older early-elementary history learners delve into a brief history of Independence Day. A Facts & Features Glossary provides context to events described within the text.

And listen up parents, if you’re a little rusty on the facts and features that established the foundations of the USA, many adults say this section of the book offers a nice refresher, just in time to celebrate the 4th with a little more meaning behind lighting that sparkler!

Other features that make this book a keepsake
🎆 Plus, a glimpse at American symbols and an intro to Independence Day history helps explain the reasons we celebrate.
🎉 Maria might be most proud of the original recipe she and her son, Constantine, created for a holiday treat their family loves. You’ve got to make the July Pie, aka bonfire-less s’mores. It’s a fun summertime in-the-kitchen activity where sticky marshmallow fingers and chocolate smudged faces are totally allowed and enhance the fun!
✨One important feature of buying July Four: 7/4 and the others in the series, is the book and series mission: to contribute a percentage of book sales proceeds to nonprofits that empower and support youth within the Trisomy 21, Down syndrome community. While Maria wrote this book with all kids in mind, her son Constantine’s journey with Down syndrome, spurred the first book and those that continue to follow.
We hope to meet you at the Calendar Chat & Storytime event!
