New Year Cleanse: Day 6 — Succulent Grilled Salmon | The North County Moms

I love salmon many ways, poached, smoked, or occasionally raw (as in sushi). But my preferred mode of consumption is definitely grilled.

Maria’s Cleanse Notes

Thanks to our family chef, aka my husband, viz. ‘amateur’ Chef Danny K, I get to enjoy this flavorful fish often since Danny has regular dates his Weber grill. (Don’t ask. It’s a Chicago thing.) He cooks freshly cut salmon filets — Icelandic, Atlantic, or  Wild Alaskan King Salmon over the open flames and truly, there is nothing like it! He likes to keep mum about seasonings and prep, but I know a variety of spices are involved, plus there’s usually lemon. (He’s Greek. He squeezes lemon on many kitchen creations.) Check out my salmon post from last year to discover more.

Francesca’s Take

Salmon is a favorite nutrient-dense fish because it offers many health benefits. It is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA and DHA, that promote an optimal lipid profile and reduce
inflammation, making salmon very beneficial for the cardiovascular system. These essential fatty acids also play a crucial role in cognitive function, supporting brain health.

Additionally, salmon is an excellent source of high-quality protein, supporting muscle development and maintenance. It is also rich in astaxanthin, a potent antioxidant that protects against oxidative stress and inflammation.

Salmon also contains abundant vitamins D and B12, which contribute to bone health and aid in the production of red blood cells. Regularly consuming this fantastic fatty fish is associated with a reduced risk of chronic diseases, making it a valuable addition to a nutrient-dense, health-conscious diet.
