New Year Cleanse: Day 7 — Bodacious Broccoli - The North County Moms

It’s bold. It’s vibrant. It’s tasty, filling, and nutritious. It’s one bodacious dark green vegetable! I enjoy it raw or cooked. On the cleanse or off, it’s a staple in my diet that my whole family enjoys.


Maria’s Cleanse Notes 

Broccoli gets a bad rap in the taste department when it’s not cooked properly. For me, the key, if not eating it raw, is to steam broccoli to enhance flavor. And according to a 2008 NIH study, steaming is actually the best way to retain as many nutrients as possible when cooking broccoli. Check out my cleanse notes from last year for more!

Broccoli, a cruciferous vegetable, is a nutritional powerhouse with numerous health benefits. Packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, broccoli supports overall health. Its high fiber
content aids digestion and promotes a healthy gut microbiome, contributing to optimal gastrointestinal function. Broccoli is a rich source of vitamin C, which boosts the immune system
and promotes collagen synthesis for skin health. It contains the potent antioxidant sulforaphane, which has anti-inflammatory and potential anticancer properties.

Additionally, broccoli contains folate, essential for cell division and DNA synthesis. Incorporating broccoli into your diet may contribute to heart health by reducing cholesterol levels. With nutrient density and diverse health-promoting compounds, broccoli is valuable to a balanced and nutritious diet.
