New Year Cleanse: Day 15 — Beneficial Blueberries and Blackberries | The North County Moms

I love waking up my mouth with these black and blue beauties! And on the cleanse, it’s so much fun to fill my mouth with a blast of sweet, juicy, and nutrient-rich goodness, a handful at a time.

Maria’s Cleanse Notes

Berries are everyday staples in our house for the whole family. Our breakfast table wouldn’t look the same without that berry bowl of fruit in the center. While eating them fresh and whole is my preferred mode of enjoyment, they’re also special as a blended ingredient in a smoothie. However, I try to reserve the mushier berries for blender usage; better yet, for obvious reasons, frozen berries are tailormade for the blender. It seems a waste to puree the perfectly formed fresh specimens. For me, those are best enjoyed chewing!

One of my favorite ways to appreciate these recently plucked berries is enjoying them in a bowl of quinoa. Check out my berry post from last year to see how I create my Blue-and-Blackberry Breakfast Quinoa!

Francesca’s Take

Blueberries and blackberries, vibrant and flavorful berries, are delicious and nutritious. Both berries are rich in antioxidants, particularly anthocyanins, which contribute to their deep colors and have been linked to various health benefits. These antioxidants help combat oxidative stress and inflammation, promoting overall well-being.

The high fiber content in blueberries and blackberries supports digestive health, aiding in regular bowel movements and promoting a healthy gut microbiome. These berries are also excellent sources of vitamins C and K, contributing to immune function, collagen synthesis, and bone health. Moreover, they provide a range of essential minerals like manganese and potassium.

Incorporating blueberries and blackberries into your diet adds a burst of sweetness while offering a nutrient-dense option for promoting a healthy lifestyle. Whether enjoyed on their own, added to yogurt, or in smoothies, these berries make a delicious and health-conscious addition to various culinary creations.
