New Year Cleanse: Day 19 — Hooray for Halibut - The North County Moms

Halibut is my fish of choice, in rotation with a meal comprised of salmon. I love halibut’s flaky white tenderness. Its ability to pair seamlessly with many side dishes is key when the family has opposing requests to complement the featured fish of the meal.


Maria’s Cleanse Notes 

Its mild flavor tends not to offend even the pickiest fish avoiders. Whether grilled or pan-seared this is a fish that my kids have enjoyed for many a weekend meal.

I grew up eating halibut weekly, which is still my favorite fish. It is lean and has a mild flavor, which makes it a delicious addition to meals and offers numerous health benefits. Rich in high-quality protein, halibut supports muscle development, repair, and overall body maintenance.

Fish is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA and DHA, which contribute to heart health by reducing inflammation and supporting optimal lipid profiles. Halibut provides essential nutrients such as vitamins B6 and B12, promoting nervous system function, energy metabolism, and the production of red blood cells.

Additionally, it contains minerals like selenium and phosphorus, supporting antioxidant defense and bone health. The lean nature of halibut makes it a suitable choice for those aiming to maintain a healthy weight and reduce saturated fat intake.
