New Year Cleanse: Day 20 — Salad or Sauteed, Select Spinach - The North County Moms

I’m easy when it comes to spinach. I love the baby leaves as a salad, sauteed with mushrooms and onion, or as a fortified, tasteless (which is good!) boost in my protein smoothie. It’s its delicate texture, but powerful nutritional punch, that keeps me coming back for more of Popeye’s favorite!

Maria’s Cleanse Notes

All of these cleanse-friendly-prep/cooking spinach styles find their way into my mouth at some point during these three weeks.

Check out my post from last year for more about this green-leafy loveliness. Plus read Francesca’s nutritional findings, below, that make this a top tier selection on or off any cleanse.

Day 20 2023 – Spinach

Day 19 2024 – Halibut

Francesca’s Take

Spinach, a leafy green vegetable, is a nutritional powerhouse offering many health benefits. Packed with vitamins and minerals, spinach is an excellent source of vitamin K, promoting bone
health and blood clotting. It is also rich in vitamins A and C, supporting immune function, skin health, and vision. The abundance of iron in spinach contributes to oxygen transport in the blood and prevents iron-deficiency anemia.

Additionally, spinach contains antioxidants, including lutein and zeaxanthin, which are beneficial for eye health and may reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration. The high fiber content in spinach supports digestive health, aiding in regular bowel movements and promoting a healthy gut microbiome. Incorporating spinach into your meals, whether in salads, smoothies, or cooked dishes, not only adds a vibrant color but also provides a nutrient-dense option for overall well-being. Its versatility makes it a valuable addition to a balanced and health-conscious diet.
