National Pizza Day Quick and Easy Pie - The North County Moms

Although I was inspired to share this post since February 9 is National Pizza Day, most people don’t need a special day to celebrate the tasty Italian-inspired, savory pie. In fact, pizza is a perennial  favorite for many families, including ours! And this homemade version works perfectly on weekdays or weekends.

SET UP

Typically, we make multiple pizzas about once every five or six weeks as a family–wheat crust and gluten-free versions. But sometimes my husband can’t help himself and takes on the pizza assembly activity just because. It’s such a convenient and delicious crowd pleaser!  We often crave this fun culinary treat on any given Friday night. Here’s how we put all together:

ELEMENTS

Ready-made pizza crust (wheat, cauliflower or other gluten-free version)

Pizza Sauce (recipe below)

3/4 lb. mozzarella, shredded

1/4 cup parmesan, grated

Toppings

4 oz, uncured pepperoni turkey

12 oz, Italian chicken sausage

1 onion, sliced 1/2 rings

1 green pepper/red pepper, sliced

1/2 pound mushrooms, (10-12) sliced

BUILD
  • Place crust on baking sheet.
  • Spoon pizza sauce in circular motion, covering curst to the edge.
  • Sprinkle parmesan over sauce.
  • Layer mozzarella.
  • Top with desired toppings.
Sauce

8 oz. can tomato sauce

2 tbsp tomato paste

1 tbsp garlic powder

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp dried basil

Salt, to taste

COMBINE
  • Simmer sauce ingredients above over medium heat about five minutes, Cool before spooning over crust.
