New Year Cleanse: Day 13 — Give it up for Grilled Chicken! - The North County Moms

Grilled chicken lives at the heart of my family’s meat consumption. Rarely do we eat red meat, except for grilled lamb chops two or three times each year for various holidays. Beef is not in our family’s repertoire at all. Other than chicken, fish and seafood reign supreme!


Maria’s Cleanse Notes 

Our mainstay, chicken, is easy to make ahead and have on hand for clean and easy protein snacking, not to mention easy go-to leftovers to incorporate in all sorts of meals throughout the week.

On the cleanse, chicken provides a familiar element to meals even without some cleanse-forbidden foods like tomatoes, peppers, and potatoes. As long as chicken is an ingredient in some of these cleanse-adjusted dishes, I don’t feel like I’m completely depriving myself of a recognizable meal. Grilled chicken, a popular and versatile protein choice, offers a range of nutritional benefits. Rich in high-quality protein, it supports muscle development, repair, and maintenance. Grilling imparts a delicious smoky flavor without adding excessive fats, making it a lean option for hypocaloric diets.

Chicken is a good source of essential nutrients such as phosphorus, selenium, and B vitamins, contributing to bone health, antioxidant defense, and energy metabolism. By grilling, excess fats can be reduced, promoting heart health. The right marinade and seasonings can provide additional nutrients while giving lots of flavor.
